We have all had those days where we are feeling extra cute, skin is on point, you’re in a great mood, but you have absolutely nowhere to go. I want you to find a space in your house, grab your camera (or phone), a stand to hold it, lights, and treat yourself to a photoshoot! Now I’m not talking about having a photoshoot just so you have a new picture to post that night on Instagram, I mean have a photoshoot for YOU.

Let’s first break down 2 main reasons why you should have a personal photoshoot.

First, you can practice getting comfortable in front of a camera/ work on different poses. If you are someone who just goes blank whenever a camera is on you, then this is a great way to see what poses work and are comfortable for you. Place your camera in different areas and test out your angles, or maybe see if you prefer sitting poses rather than standing (Quick tip: low angles tend to make your legs look longer!). Test out your facials as well! I tend to clench my jaw sometimes, out of habit, and that shows a more “serious yet sassy” look. So lately I’ve been practicing how to loosen up my mouth for a more relaxed and soft look. If you feel like you’re pretty comfortable with taking pictures, then work on incorporating your arms, or play around with the placement of your legs. Don’t be afraid to get weird because you might find some creative looks you might really like!

Second, having personal photoshoots by yourself gives you a chance to work on your self confidence. It’s like I said on the “Welcome” page, you’re not always going to be good enough for others, but that doesn’t matter. You should ALWAYS be good enough for yourself! So I want you to think of this as a self care activity! Put on one of your favorite outfits. It can be a super sexy look, or casual quarantine fit. Wear whatever it is that makes you feel like a badass! Do your makeup, play your favorite playlist, and get to work! If you feel a bit stuck on what to do, then go to Pinterest and you can find some cool ideas there. You can even add props into the equation. Remember, this is just for fun! Don’t take yourself so seriously!

Now we’ve talked about some reasons on why you should give it a try, now let’s talk about how you can make this all happen! All you need are the following:

  • A Camera: You DO NOT need to go out and buy some expensive camera! Don’t underestimate the power of your phone’s camera! Especially if you have an iPhone!

  • Lights: Natural lighting is so much fun to play around with, or I use my ring light, as well as the LED Neewer lights.

  • A stand: You want to use something sturdy like a book to hold/lean your camera or phone on. If you are interested in getting a tripod, then this one was super cheap from Amazon! Link will be below!

  • Backdrop: If you want to work with a background, then grab some bed sheets and clip, or tape, them onto the wall. Make sure to steam the sheet before hanging it!

All 4 of these items can all be found within your household, so don’t think you have to wait until you can buy these things to make it happen! Lastly, check and see if your phone has the self timer option. This will give you time to pose however you’d like, or simply take a video of yourself holding a pose for about 5 seconds each. You can then go back and screenshot whichever ones you like! I’d love to know if anyone is interested in trying this out, or has already given it a try! Enjoy the process because this is ALL for YOU!
