Let it GO.

When was the last time you had to let go of something? Let go of love, anger, a person, guilt, sadness, a relationship, thoughts, stress, and the hardest one of all….those one pair of jeans that have kept you looking snatched for so many years!

Letting go is hard! Maybe you’re the type of person to let go of things easily and just move on, that’s great! I tend to hold on to anything that makes me feel any type of emotion because I try to analyze the situation and understand why it happened. I am a true investigator and over thinker, it’s a blessing and a curse!

A lot of us can agree that letting go is not always an easy process or quick fix. There is a constant internal fight between your emotions and mental thoughts of what you should do. Yes letting go is a fight, but that release is a huge part of your growth in moving forward.

It starts with being honest with yourself. Trust me, it’s easier said than done! The minute you are truthful and admit to yourself (out loud) what you’re feeling about this certain topic, you will first freak out because you actually admitted it; and then feel a sense of relief just from getting those few words off your chest. You are now fully aware of what you feel, and are able to move forward in practicing how you can let go.

Have a conversation with yourself. Yes, you read correctly. Talk to yourself about why you hold on to this certain situation, what it makes you feel, and why it’s so important. Pay attention to that last point, if you can’t find a valid reason as to why it’s so “important” to hold on to…guess what…it’s time to let it GO. If you only knew how many conversations I’ve had with myself whenever my anxiety starts to act up, or I start to over think. Having a conversation with yourself doesn’t make you crazy! It allows you to actually bring your thoughts into reality and discuss those points I mentioned above. I highly suggest you write down key points that are made so you can reference back to them whenever you feel yourself back tracking.

Surround yourself with positive energy. Whether that be your family, friends, significant other, or even animals. Put yourself in an environment that will uplift you and guide you to focus on the beautiful journey ahead of you.

Instead of dwelling on the past and thinking “I should’ve” or “If I had just”, I challenge you to focus on the PRESENT and the FUTURE. We can’t control what happened in the past, we can only learn and grow from it. Everyday is a chance for us to wake up and start fresh. Do things that our future self will thank us for. So instead of thinking about that business you maybe want to start…do it. Instead of wondering what it would be like to go back to school and get your Masters….do it. Instead of contemplating whether moving to a new place i s possible…DO IT.

Let go of whatever it is that is holding you back from creating a future for yourself. The next time you feel yourself holding on to a person, feeling, or situation, remember this: If it isn’t serving a purpose in your life anymore, then let go and let be.
