We’ve said the whole “New Year. New Me.” thing.....and it’s been great...for about the first few months and then you’re punishing yourself for not following your exact New Years resolution list. Let’s rewind for a second! What if we changed it up a bit? New year....you are the main character! You get to create, enhance, and change your story however you want without anyone coming in to “edit” it. Let’s play around and expand on that thought real quick. How do we become the main character of our story for 2021?

Let’s first talk about the one topic that can have you excited and stressed at the same time....your goals. What are you goals for this new year? Listen, I’ve tried the “go to the gym everyday” “only have sweets on holidays” “read everyday for 1 hour” and so on. That mindset only lasted about a month because it was unrealistic for me. I was trying to follow in the trends in what everyone else was trying to achieve, so I wasn’t being myself. If this past year taught us anything, it was to start living in your authentic skin everyday! So this year I chose to break down my goals, not change, but modify them so I could achieve them while enjoying the process! Now I’m not going to tell you my goals, cause those are kept between God and I, but I will share 3 quick tips on what we can do to become the main character of 2021! Set Healthy Habits
A lot of us want to set healthy habits, and one thing I’ve held on to for a while now is that health starts within! So that’s great that you’ve set some killer workouts in the gym and understand your food intake, but how do you take care of yourself mentally? Again, I’m no therapist nor personal trainer! I’m choosing to learn more about my mind/body and what it needs to feel good. So this means planning a workout schedule that is realistic yet challenges me. Not restricting myself from foods I enjoy (everything in moderation). Listening to more podcasts in the car (my current favorite is up there), and setting small reading goals for the week. Of course your breakdown will look much different, but start small with daily goals and then work your way up!
Work in Silence
Say it with me....If I don’t post about it, then it DID happened! We need to normalize not always having to post what you're doing on social media to know that you’re doing something with your life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m here for sharing your accomplishments because you’re proud of yourself! I will HYPE you up my love! It’s ok to work in silence because you are focused on YOU. People are going to have their opinions, but that shouldn’t drive you away or distract you from going for what you want. Have FUN!!
This is one I need to work on a lot more because I tend to immerse myself so much in work! Let yourself have those lazy Netflix days in bed, or set aside a day trip with your girls! We talked a lot about finding those small moments in Quarantine. Now as we SAFELY start to do more things outside of the house, make sure you’re having FUN! Don’t let yourself feel guilty that you took a rest day from the gym, or you’re not taking extra shifts at work. Take the break and do something that brings you back to your center! Mind you, I’m not here telling you that working on your goals this year is going to be a walk in the park. To be honest with you, my anxiety has already gotten to me because I know in my heart that I’m going to do great things for myself; and that scares me! That’s great though! If at least 3 of your goals don’t scare you, then you’re staying in your comfort zone. We left comfort back in 2020, we don’t know her! No more saying “I hope”! I know you are going to THRIVE in being the main character of your year, so let’s remember this post and check back in on this topic in a few months!
